Midweek Market Insight To Help You Navigate the Markets

Market Setup

U.S. equities are attempting to stabilize Wednesday after three consecutive declines, but the more important signal is coming from the bond market. Long-term Treasury yields recently reached levels not seen in nearly two decades before easing this morning, while the 10-year yield remains around 4.7%. At the same time, Brent crude is above $90 as renewed Middle East tensions keep energy-related inflation risk alive.

The next major test arrives this afternoon with minutes from the Federal Reserve's July meeting. Recent softer employment and inflation data have reduced expectations for additional tightening, but investors will be looking for evidence of how broadly Fed officials remain concerned about persistent inflation.

This matters because rising long-term yields have begun challenging the market's most expensive technology and semiconductor stocks. The skeptical interpretation is not that the AI investment cycle is ending. It is that the cost of capital is again forcing investors to distinguish between businesses whose valuations depend heavily on future expectations and those already converting AI infrastructure spending into revenue.

Core Midweek Market Insight

The clearest midweek signal is a widening separation between the AI narrative and the AI infrastructure reality.

Semiconductor shares have come under pressure as higher yields reduce the present value investors assign to future earnings. Yet the physical infrastructure required to support AI continues to experience measurable demand. Data centers require electricity, but they also require enormous amounts of thermal management, electrical distribution and cooling capacity.

That creates an important distinction.

Skeptical AI logic asks investors not whether AI remains a compelling story, but where demand can already be verified.

The answer increasingly lies downstream from the chips themselves. Recent corporate results show that cooling and thermal-management suppliers are experiencing substantial data-center demand even as semiconductor stocks become more volatile.

This suggests a useful positioning adjustment: maintain exposure to the AI capital-spending cycle, but move part of that exposure toward companies selling the physical infrastructure that hyperscale computing cannot operate without.

Stock Recommendation

AAON, Inc. — Long Bias

AAON provides commercial HVAC equipment and increasingly sophisticated cooling systems for data centers, making it a direct beneficiary of rising computing density and power consumption.

The fundamental evidence is unusually tangible. In its first-quarter 2026 results, AAON reported record net sales of $496.9 million, up 54.3% year over year. More importantly, total backlog reached a record $2.1 billion, up 107.4%, driven largely by data-center demand. Management raised its full-year outlook to 40%–45% revenue growth.

That does not make AAON immune to market volatility. It does, however, provide something increasingly valuable in the current environment: evidence that demand is moving beyond AI projections and into contracted equipment requirements.

The directional view is long with an intermediate-term horizon. The thesis rests on continued data-center construction and increasing cooling intensity rather than further expansion of AI valuation multiples.

Under the Radar Stock Recommendation

Modine Manufacturing Company — Long Bias

Modine Manufacturing provides a less obvious expression of the same thermal-management theme.

Its latest results make the case worth examining. For the quarter ended June 30, Modine reported revenue of $874.1 million, up 28% year over year, while earnings increased 44%. Its Data Centers segment was considerably stronger: sales rose 90% to $348.6 million, primarily because of higher demand from hyperscale customers in North America.

There is also an important skeptical counterpoint. Data-center segment gross margin declined as Modine absorbed capacity-expansion costs, supply-chain constraints, higher material expenses and other production inefficiencies.

That weakness should not be ignored. But it also illustrates why Modine qualifies as the under-the-radar idea. The company is investing aggressively to meet demand that is already materializing, while execution remains imperfect. If production efficiency improves as capacity ramps, earnings could increasingly reflect the revenue growth already visible in the business.

Risk Context and Time Horizon

The central risk is that hyperscalers reduce data-center capital spending. If AI monetization disappoints enough to cause major technology companies to delay new facilities, cooling-equipment orders could weaken quickly.

There is also valuation risk. Infrastructure beneficiaries are no longer undiscovered, and today's elevated long-term yields could pressure multiples even when operating results remain strong.

For AAON, deterioration in its record backlog or weaker data-center bookings would challenge the thesis. For Modine, continued margin deterioration despite strong revenue growth would indicate that capacity expansion is not translating efficiently into profitability.

This is therefore an intermediate-term positioning thesis, approximately six to eighteen months, rather than a short-term trade. The underlying proposition remains intact while hyperscale capital spending, cooling demand and backlog conversion remain strong.
